Tips for Saving Money with a Newborn

by Drew Allen on May 29, 2017

It is hard enough to work to pay the household bills as it is with just the mortgage, utility bills, food, gas, spending, but now with a newborn there is the daycare charge to think about, which is practically the same as a mortgage payment, not to mention the cost of raising a child, which we often hear seems to go up every year, which I think last, I heard was a couple hundred thousand over the course of baby to college, which is why it is important to save money anywhere you can.

Sign Up for Discounts on Formula

As I have learned in my limited time having a newborn it is not always as easy as getting plenty of breast milk, so sometimes formula needs to be used to supplement your ever-hungry baby.  If you pick up a box of formula for $7 or so it doesn’t seem bad if you are using every now and then, but if you need to use it as a primary source, then you will especially need to save.  If you look on https://www.enfamil.com/offers/baby-formula-coupons-samples and sign up, every little bit helps.

Check Out Target Weekly Promos

Many offers from Target show that if you spend a minimum on purchasing certain products, you can receive $5-10 gift cards, which may not seem like a lot, but it might be more reason to do all of your shopping at Target to earn rewards just for making the normal purchases that you would have made anyways.  The other day I was in the store for diapers and the promo was buy to select Pampers or Huggies and receive a $5 gift card, so it was nice to receive a few dollars back on something I was going to buy anyways.

Don’t Forget the Coupons

If you still receive the Sunday paper you are already familiar with clipping household coupons, but now you can look out for baby product coupons as well.  Stores like Kroger can digitally load coupons from their website onto the shopper’s reward card as well, provided you remember which coupons you added.  Also, you probably receive Bed Bath & Beyond coupons daily it seems, those are able to be used at Buy Buy Baby.  Also, if you sign up on Buy Buy Baby’s website you can now get those coupons almost daily as well, so all the more reason to never purchase anything at full price there.

Return Gifts for Essentials

Friends are family are very generous when it comes to a baby shower, making sure that items on your registry are purchased, but sometimes they can be a little too generous and purchase items that were not on your registry because they thought you would like, but since we all do not have the same taste, it might not be for us, or maybe it was a duplicate or non-essential item.  These could be returned to the store for credit to purchase something you really need, or even extra money to purchase diapers, that never seem to end.
